CMS Hosts Annual NEO Youth Summit
Chardon Middle School recently hosted its Second Annual NEO Youth Summit. The event brought student leaders from area school together to discuss factors relevant to their 21st century educational experience. Participating schools included Mentor Ridge, Shore & Memorial, Madison Middle School and Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School. The visiting schools brought student leaders, administrators or school counselors to observe and assist the students. Each school facilitated a discussion on a school-related topic such as: Course Offerings/Scheduling Options, The Impact of Technology on Teaching, Learning and Student Behavior, Improving School Climate/Spirit, The Benefits of Service Learning, Prevention & Intervention Programs, and Student Leadership Programs and Characteristics. Breakfast and lunch were generously donated and served by the CMS PTO. We are very proud for our CMS student leaders and staff on a job well done.

Over 150 students participated as members of the cast and crew. The cast is shown here taking its final bow on opening night.
- Pictured In Top Right Photo: Chardon’s School Resource Officer, Mike Shaw, recently spent time in Mr. Tom Ciferno’s Physics classes discussing the physics of car crashes. Officer Shaw is a pivotal educator at CHS who provides safety, life skills, health and wellness, but every now and then– shares his knowledge of the law of physics. Issac Newton was the first to state the concepts that are necessary to understanding the physics of collisions. His three laws are used again and again in all the fields of physics. Officer Shaw’s law is simple with the physics of car crashes…Don’t text and drive!

Hyland, an industry leader in providing software for managing content, is headquartered in Westlake. The students were able to learn first-hand about current hiring trends, salaries and the work environment in the technology industry.

The students played “Guess What’s in the Smoothie” and tasted a variety of yummy samples. Thank you Heinen’s for being such a great community partner of Hambden School.
