Science Day is always a big hit for our K-2 students! Each class gets a turn to visit CIS where there are six stations set up to explore. Select 4th graders assist in manning some of the stations to teach the younger students how each experiment works and what the end result should be. This year students looked at pond critters and larvae under the microscope; discovered the weight difference between lighter warm water and heavier cold water; watched “The Machine” where many different simple machines moved a golf ball from place to place; used a 16 foot lever to lift a 40 pound bag of salt with ease; wired a simple circuit using a 6 volt battery and plug in wires; and created sound waves with tuning forks that were mounted in a platform so the vibrating forks with an ink pen on the end would swing across paper and make a sound wave on the paper.
