The Chardon Healing Fund, in partnership with the Chardon Local School District, would like to announce the arrival of a team from Virginia Tech to present the program, “Actively Caring for People” (AC4P). The AC4P movement was created in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shooting and now has reached worldwide acclaim. With the help of the faculty, staff, and students at Virginia Tech, Chardon High School is teaming up to join the campaign with a student assembly that was held on Tuesday, May 15th. A private dinner hosted by and held at Sand Ridge Golf Club followed.

AC4P
Actively Caring for People embodies a large-scale movement that aims to establish a more compassionate, interdependent, and empathetic culture within schools, businesses, organizations, and communities. By encouraging people to actively care, individuals are inspired to perform intentional acts of kindness as part of their daily routine. Since its inception, thousands of AC4P stories have emerged from students, resident advisors, family members, school-age children, faculty, friends, and even strangers who have spread the movement beyond the boundaries of Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech School
The Virginia Tech School shooting took place on April 16, 2007, on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Thirty-two people were killed and 17 others wounded in two separate attacks, approximately two hours apart. The massacre was the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in U.S. history.
Chardon Healing Fund
A day after the tragic shooting at Chardon High School, school district superintendent Joe Bergant announced the Chardon Healing Fund had been established through the United Way Services of Geauga County (UWSGC). To date, the nonprofit fund has received over $780,000 in donations, with 100 percent of those funds reserved for the benefit of victims, their families, students, and long-term healing of the community. A volunteer advisory board made up of 11 community members, including graduates, business leaders, and public officials, manages the Chardon Healing Fund to ensure all funds are appropriately allocated.

Business and individuals can make a donation to the fund at any PNC bank office or contact UWSGC. For more information, please contact the United Way offices at 440-285-2261.
