Back this year is the Geauga Park District’s popular FREE snowshoe borrowing program at The West Woods

Back this year: Geauga Park District’s popular snowshoe borrowing program at The West Woods…and did we mention it’s FREE for Geauga County residents?

Also new in 2020 will be youth snowshoes for ages 3 through 6!

The deeper the snow, the better, with at least a few inches a must. But whatever the weather, snowshoes are now waiting in The West Woods Nature Center’s lobby for your use when the time is right. Though a call to 440-279-0880 may be made to check availability, no reservations are taken. Rather, snowshoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Borrowing can take place any time 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and last up to two hours. One must be at least 18 years old to check out a pair; anyone younger must be accompanied by an adult, and no one under 40 pounds may use the currently stocked snowshoes due to their weight. Keep an eye on Geauga Park District’s social media, or News & Updates webpage, to learn when snowshoes become available for children under 40 pounds.

Registrants must sign a waiver form and leave a driver’s license as a security deposit. Please note that out-of-county residents are charged a $5 rental fee (credit card only); Geauga County residents continue to enjoy this service free of charge.

Also note that snowshoes may not leave The West Woods except for registered programs. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. With additional questions, please call ahead at 440-286-9516.
