Poetry In Nature

Experience memories of warmer seasons from a new, smaller perspective

Poetry, pictures and music will be a unique way of learning about the natural history of insects as Geauga Park District presents Poetry in Nature on Sunday, February 9, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center.

This singularly different program will feature photos and music to highlight several specific species, followed by a unique poem reading by Naturalists Linda Gilbert and Tami Gingrich. The poems are first-person accounts about insect life, as told by the insects themselves.

“While reading through the poems in preparation for this program, I was surprised by the emotional reaction I had to one entitled ‘Chrysalis Diary’ – and it’s not even a sad poem,” Linda said.

“This is a playful way to portray different insect species,” Tami said, “and we hope that people will come away with a new perspective on each of them.”

“And if nothing else, come and see if Tami and Linda can make it through the program without weeping,” added Linda.

The West Woods Nature Center is wheelchair/stroller accessible at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township. Registration is not required for this program, designed for an audience school aged and up. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.
