Find your adventure in Geauga Park District this summer – naturalist-led canoe and kayak floats, Nights Out in the Parks, and night sky viewings at your International Dark Sky Park, to name just a few!
Here are our offerings for July, August and September 2023. For those requiring it, registration opens online at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org at 10 a.m. on June 20 for Geauga residents, then June 27 for out-of-county folks, and can also be done by calling 440-286-9516. These programs and events are also published on the website and in our quarterly Park Explorer Activity Guide, mailed to every Geauga County household and available in all county libraries.

Dogs and their humans, let’s take a roughly 3-mile hike along the easy Interurban Trail. Cold Nose Companions Dog Training will share helpful tips and tricks to practice during the hike. Bring dog towels, water, water bowl, poop scoop and bags for dog clean-up. One dog per handler and on a leash at all times (8 ft. max). Dogs must be non-aggressive to people and other dogs. Join camp naturalists for an exciting week of exploring streams, ponds and forests! We’ll search for and learn about insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, astronomy and more. Campers will spend their day both on-trail and off-trail at The West Woods’ Affelder House. Schedules, waivers and other details will be sent at a later date. Waiver required for each participant. Shorebird migration is in full swing in late summer, and they are usually found feeding in exposed mudflats throughout the area. We’ll use binoculars and spotting scopes to identify these tricky birds. Dress for the weather and bring a sack lunch and binoculars. Adults only. Registration required.
Horseback Riders: Amish Buggy Training & Trail Ride

Bring your own horse to meet and experience an Amish horse and buggy, both stationary and moving, in a non-threatening way courtesy of Rhoda Wengerd. You and your horse will learn to safely share the trail with buggies until 11 AM, then join a naturalist-led trail ride on the Wagon, Meadowlark and Gray Fox trails. Finally, at 12:30 PM, bring your lunch to share time with other riders at Woods Edge Shelter. Expect hills, gravel, mud, streams, bicycles and Amish buggies. Helmets recommended. Bring a shovel to clean up after your horse in the parking lot. Registration required.
