Last week I sat down and met with Ty Kellogg, the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s Organization Director for the four county area. One of our other Geauga News authors Marilou Suszko had connected me to Ty, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn (and remember) that I had played in the St. Mary’s Teen Life Choir with Ty almost 10 years ago. It was nice to be able to catch up with each other.

As Organization Director for the four county area, Ty acts as liaison between the county Farm Bureaus and OFBF. He assists the county groups as they develop and implement programs to strengthen the organization and enhance its ability to serve its members.
As Ty explained to me the mission of the Farm Bureau it was very refreshing and exciting to hear another young person like myself who was interested in promoting the buy local movement. Ty understands that with the help of other members, we can all use technology to connect local farms to local consumers.
The mission of the Farm Bureau is to bring farmers together in order to improve their income and standard of living through organized action. Ohio Farm Bureau has a rich history: the improvement of economic conditions and the quality of rural life was greatly improved in Farm Bureau’s first decades of existence and continues to provide positive support to our local farmers.
As we head into 2012 the Geauga News is excited to partner with Ty and all of the local Ohio Farm Bureau members in our common goal of promoting the local positive things that our county has to offer.
