Technology Prompts Friendly Vocabulary Competition for Sixth Graders

Sixth grade students in Mr. Sherman’s classes recently engaged in a little friendly vocabulary competition using the software program. generates digital flashcards and students use them and work together to answer quiz questions Mr. Sherman has created based on recent vocabulary lessons. Students are “competing” against the other groups in the class, but this application encourages accuracy over speed, since those who get a question wrong have to start the quiz over from the beginning. then allows Mr. Sherman to view the answers and as a result he can shift the lesson so the appropriate reviews can take place where they’re needed and in the groups they’re needed in. “It makes a whole new classroom dynamic,” says Mr. Sherman. “I see my students’ engagement rise.  A lot of my students now practice the review game beforehand so they can win. I haven’t ask my students to share their feedback on the tool with me, but I have yet to meet a student who doesn’t love it.”

Cardinal junior Jacob R. has made school history! Jacob set a new school record with eight goals in the Huskies’ 12-2 win at Grand Valley on Thursday, September 29, 2016. The feat also ties him for seventh in Ohio High School Athletic Association history for goals scored in a single game. “Jake was as aggressive as he has ever been,” said Cardinal Coach Mike Topalian. “He was very patient and waited for his shots.

Cardinal Senior Named as Ward’s Lawncare and Landscape Player of the Week

Congratulations to Senior Trent M., on being named as a Ward's Lawn Care and Landscape Player of the Week for the week of September 19th! Trent scored 4 goals, including a game winner at Newbury with less than 10 seconds to play, and recorded three assists for the Huskies. Coach Topalian says, “Trent led the Cardinal Huskies during a demanding week of three games in three days. As captain, Trent provided the leadership on and off the field to lead the Huskies to two wins in three days including two late road games. Even though exhausted, Trent took control of the ball at midfield with 10 seconds to go in a tie game at Newbury. His long range shot found the net with five seconds left in a thrilling, gutsy win. He is a great example of a successful student athlete. Trent participates in band, wrestling and baseball as well. He has a never give up attitude and is a tough competitor in all he does. Trent is an outstanding role model for his young Huskie teammates.” Congratulations Trent!
