Burton 4th Graders Visit The Wall That Heals
It’s often difficult to teach history to young children who haven’t yet experienced much of the world, but fourth grade social studies and science teacher at Burton Elementary, Mrs. Wadsworth, found a way to make history come alive with the visit of The Wall that Heals, a traveling replica of The Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C.
She offered an enrichment extension in which her students would visit the wall, take some pictures and write about their experience with the intention of pulling all of their reflections and images together in a slide show.
Students posed for pictures in front of the mobile memorial, but more importantly, they reflected about grandparents and great uncles who fought in the Vietnam War, the large number of casualties, those who are POW/MIA, and the loss that comes with the seriousness of war. Thank you, Mrs. Wadsworth, for providing your students with a meaningful learning experience.
