An Apple a Day…

Karen Sage, of Sage’s Fruit Market, recently visited several of Chardon’s elementary schools, including Park ES, to share with students the health benefits of apples.

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is an old Welsh proverb that most of us are familiar with, but we now know why. Apples are beneficial because they are rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber.

The Sage family, who are long-time school supporters, received the Century Farm award from Ohio Department of Agriculture in 2015. They have been farming at their current location since 1867 and in Geauga County starting in 1842.
