Great Geauga County Fair Band Rehearsals Resume
If that’s a 76 Trombone salute you hear, it could be because the Great Geauga County Fair Band is launching its 76th season and rehearsals are about to begin! Band director Greg Hillis plans to add 37 new pieces of music to the band’s repertoire this season.
The band’s first appearance in 2014 will take place at the Geauga County Maple Festival Parade on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, in Chardon, Ohio.
Band manager Shirley Hamilton reports, “We have a full schedule of concerts, parades, and other special events lined up for the year. The new repertoire includes two new Sousa marches; Richard Rodgers’ Oklahoma; and a fun arrangement by John Moss entitled Start Trek Through the Years.”
Weekly rehearsals for band members begin on March 25. Interested musicians age 15 and over are encouraged to visit a rehearsal to see whether the Great Geauga County Fair Band is a good fit for their skills. Open practices are held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in the Burton High School band room with an Easter break on April 15.
As the year progresses, the full calendar of 2014 band appearances will be posted on the band’s website. To join the band or to obtain additional information, call Heather Flack at 440-257-1945.
If you’d like to add your musical talent to the Great Geauga County Fair Band, visit an open rehearsal any Tuesday evening, beginning March 25. Rehearsals take place in the Burton High School band room.
