Baseball, Softball and Track News at Cardinal

Baseball & Softball

The weather has not cooperated so far. The softball team did get to play a game at Crestwood on Wednesday April 2, losing 13-1 to the Red Devils. The baseball players are still looking to get their first game in.

On Saturday, March 22, and Saturday, March 29, the Cardinal High School Baseball and Softball teams hosted free youth clinics for the Middlefield Recreation Department. The clinics were run by the CHS coaching staff and players and were sponsored and promoted by the Middlefield Recreation Department. Over 70 players from Middlefield and the surrounding communities of Parkman and Huntsburg showed up for each of the Saturday clinics.

All of these future Huskies received instruction in pitching, catching, fielding, and hitting. Players volunteered their time to instruct during these clinics in efforts to make all levels of Cardinal Baseball and Softball a success. “All of the players involved got to see what it is like to be on the other side of the clipboard,” said Cardinal Head Baseball Coach Brian George. Softball Head Coach Dennis Ikeler was impressed with all of CHS athletes involved, “They all did such a great job with the little kids, this is really going to pay off for us down the road.”

Middlefield Rec Director Mike Dutton and CHS Athletic Director Andy Cardinal have been working closely together over the past few months to tie the youth and school athletic programs together. “Player development from youth to the time they get to high school is key to us improving Cardinal Athletics” said Andy Cardinal. “Our youth programs need our support and vice versa. This is a key first step in accomplishing that goal.” More youth clinics are planned in the future in addition to the ones that already exist in Football and Volleyball.
