Burton Elementary Second Graders Write Their Own Tales

As a follow up activity to reading Henry and Mudge by Cynthia Rylant for their Summer Reading Book, Burton Elementary second grade teacher, Mrs.Starr, had each 2nd grader bring their favorite stuffed animal to class on Tuesday, August 30th in order to inspire them to create their own adventure stories.

There were stuffed bears, cats, rabbits, and even fish and snakes in tow to spark the creative spirits of the second graders.  Students were engaged in brainstorming, planning, pre-writing, drafting, as well as illustrating their original stories which featured their stuffed animal and themselves as the two main characters engaged in a unique adventure.  Students were engaged and excited in the writing process.
