With input from its members, Blackbrook Audubon’s monthly Important Bird Area survey migrated last month from Chagrin River Park to Beaty Landing. Join Blackbrook Sunday, June 23rd as they continue looking for birds in this park just east of Painesville.
After three years of bird surveys in the Chagrin River Corridor IBA, Blackbrook is turning their binoculars to the Grand River – Lower Watershed IBA. Birders can take advantage of Lake Metroparks’ expansion of Beaty Landing with a new parking lot and trail on 35 more acres to find more birds.
Park at the new, lower entrance to Beaty Landing, 543 East Walnut Ave., Painesville, at 8:00 a.m. Blackbrook will monitor this site on the fourth Sunday of each month at least until March 22nd, 2020. The list of birds found will be posted on http://eBird.org. Birders of all skill levels are welcome.
Beaty Landing safeguards habitat for the Grand River valley’s wildlife, including nesting Bald Eagles about two miles upstream. National Audubon Society designated the Grand River IBA for its variety of habitats: river, forested floodplain and open field.
Blackbrook Audubon last monitored Beaty Landing in 2010. Participants can avoid the steep hill they climbed back then by using the new entrance and added trail loop, which is compacted gravel and rated moderate.
