Geauga Park District’s popular snowshoe borrowing program continues at The West Woods…and it’s still FREE for Geauga County residents!
The deeper the snow, the better, with at least four inches a must. When the time is right, snowshoes are now waiting in The West Woods Nature Center’s lobby. A call to 440-286-9516 can be made to check availability, but please understand that no reservations will be taken, as snowshoes are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Borrowing can take place any time 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and last up to two hours.
To check out a pair, one must be at least 18 years old; anyone younger must be accompanied by an adult. (Yes, we now have sizes for youth ages 3-6 and under 50 pounds!) Registrants must sign a waiver form and leave a driver’s license as a security deposit. Out-of-county residents are charged a $5 rental fee (credit card only).
Snowshoes may not leave The West Woods (9465 Kinsman Road, or Route 87, in Russell Township) except for registered programs.
Also this year, add your name to our call/email list for spontaneous naturalist-led snowshoe excursions and/or Learn to Snowshoe programs to be “called up” when weather conditions are just right! Programs may be any time day or evening at any park depending on weather conditions. Borrow our snowshoes or bring your own! To sign up for these alerts, register at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under Programs & Events, then filter by program activity Snowshoeing.
