When you know, you know. And for Cardinal High School senior, Erin R., she is certain Ohio Wesleyan University is the right place for her. “Everyone says you should get that ‘feeling’ when you just know something is the right fit,” Erin says. “OWU was the first school I visited and the only school that gave me that feeling of ‘this is where I belong’ and I’m extremely excited for the opportunity.” Erin officially signed her collegiate letter of intent to run track for the OWU Battling Bishops surrounded by her parents and in front of about a dozen friends in the Cardinal High School lobby on Friday, May 12, 2017.
Erin is a four-year letterwinner for the Cardinal Varsity track team and served as captain for both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. She is a seven time regional qualifier and has been named as an all-conference athlete multiple times in her career. Erin’s main events include the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 4×200 and 4×400 relays. “Erin is one of the hardest workers in the program’s history and to have the opportunity to run at OWU will only further her experience,” says Cardinal varsity track coach Greg Cicero. “Erin has made the most of her chances at Cardinal and I would expect that to continue with her work ethic and dedication. She will have a nice career at OWU under Coach Boey.”
Erin will run hurdles for OWU and she’s looking forward to enhancing her already outstanding career. “Coach Boey says he sees a lot of potential in me and a lot of room for growth and development, so I’m very excited to get there, become part of the program and see how my running improves,” Erin says. “This is just an amazing opportunity, it feels good to be wanted.”
In addition to track, Erin was also a member of Cardinal’s varsity soccer team and has participated in student council, been elected as a class officer, and is a member of the National Honor Society. At Ohio Wesleyan, she says she plans to major in business administration with a focus in fashion.
