The Cardinal Middle School Builders Club is sending a big, Huskie, “Thank You” to the local residents and businesses who helped them provide two area families with a happy holiday.
Cardinal staff members, Flambeau, The Samaritan Society of St. Edward’s and St. Lucys, Felicia Timas, Maggie’s Donuts and the Kiwanis Club all donated gifts or money for the Builders Club to distribute to both families. Club members also had assistance from campers at Camp Sue Osborn in selecting gifts for the families. “The students did a fantastic job gathering donations and choosing and wrapping gifts,” says Peggy Karg, Builders Club Advisor.
In addition to providing gifts for two area families, the 30-member club at Cardinal Middle School also created Ziploc, duct tape baggies to be filled with items to send to active duty soldiers, crafted handmade candy cane reindeers for families and Cardinal staff, and organized a Christmas concert for Briar Hill residents, that unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the flu.
Future community service projects will include Pennies for Patients, a cookie bake for select area residents, filling Easter Eggs for the Village egg hunt and organizing events to promote school spirit. “I like being in Builders Club because it feels great to help my friends and my community,” says Club member Brendon Sly – it’s a sentiment shared by all of his fellow Builders Club members.
Builders Club is an international student-led program providing members with opportunities to perform service, build character and develop leadership. It is open to middle and junior high school students. Clubs are chartered in partnership with a Kiwanis club and a school or community-based organization serving middle or junior high school students.
