Cardinal Volleyball Team Pursues Conference Title

Soccer

The Huskies soccer team lost a tough game to rival Berkshire on Tuesday, 4-3. Berkshire kicked the winning goal with 1.1 seconds left in the game.

Cardinal now is 7-4 on the season. The Huskies will be at Bloomfield on Saturday and host Independence on Tuesday.

Cross Country

The Cardinal boys finished 10th out of 12 teams at the 15th Annual Cardinal Invitational. Independence finished first, with Painesville Harvey second and Kirtland third. On the girls side, the Huskies finished 6th out of 8 teams. Independence finished first, James A. Garfield (Garrettsville) second, and Hawken third.

The Boys and Girls teams competed against James A. Garfield on Tuesday. The boys lost a close meet 22-30 while the girls lost 22-36. Strong performances were turned in by Biz Timas and Brandon Neikirk along with Alec Wolff and Lexi Loze.

Volleyball

The Volleyball team had a great week as they continue to pursue their first conference title in 7 years, defeating Harvey and rival Berkshire in decisive fashion.

On Tuesday, the Huskies beat Harvey in 3 sets. Alyssa Shirkey led the Huskies with 8 kills, 7 serving aces, 23 serving points and 4 digs. Kaitlin Bean and Haley Adams both added 4 kills each while the Bean sisters also had 4 digs each. Caitlyn Lechene served up 13 service points and 9 aces of her own. Becca Klein led the Huskies in back row action with 5 digs.

Cardinal beat Berkshire on Thursday also in 3 sets.

The Huskies travel to Kirtland on Tuesday for an important CVC Valley Division showdown before returning home on Thursday to host West Geauga. Thursday’s game will be our annual “Volley For the Cure” game.

Football

The football team fell to 2-2 with a 45-8 loss to Beachwood on Saturday. The Huskies will try to get back on the winning track vs. Richmond Heights on Friday.
