CELEBRATE THE LONGEST NIGHT – Popular annual event features interactive skits, woodland Solstice Traditions Trail

Let’s make the most out of the longest night of our year at Geauga Park District’s annual Winter Solstice Celebration!
Anytime between the dark hours of 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, a visit to The West Woods and its nature center will include fun, family-friendly exploration of the roots of our modern holiday celebrations. All are welcome and registration is not required – just be sure to mark your calendar now so you don’t miss it, and plan accordingly for possibly above-average Saturday attendance!

Guests will want to come dressed for time spent indoors and outdoors, as much of the event is outside. Indoors, enjoy sweet treats, hot beverages, a free solstice-themed craft, and festive traditional music performed by the Pilgrim Brass Choir.

Then, outdoors, stroll the self-guided Solstice Traditions Trail, a magical, candlelit route through the forest complete with a bonfire, and hit the stage area to watch costumed interpreters as they highlight solstice traditions of past civilizations, i.e. the Northern Barbarians, the origins of the yule log, and more! Interactive skits will be performed every 10 minutes on a rotation throughout the night, with a detailed schedule posted onsite.

The West Woods is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township; overflow parking will be available from 6:30 to 10:30 PM via a free shuttle bus at ASM International, located just east on Route 87. Please note that dogs will not be admitted, and only indoor portions will be fully wheelchair/stroller accessible.
