Celebrate the Sun

Solar day festivities also honor the longest day of the year

The longest day of the year is something that should be celebrated, we think. But how? Join Geauga Park District on Friday, June 21, for fun solar experiments and safe viewing of the sun!

What: Solar Day / Summer Solstice Open House

When: Friday, June 21 – 3 to 9 p.m.

Where: Observatory Park, 10610 Clay Street, Montville Township

With the assistance of astronomy naturalists, also known as astro-nats, you and your family can take this day to experiment with all kinds of solar-powered objects. Among them, try racing a solar car, cooking in a solar oven, washing your hands with a solar shower and determining UV light with solar beads.

In addition, open house visitors will also be welcomed to view the sun safely through Park District solar scopes – watchful for solar flares – and stick around to watch the sun set in the west.

This free, all-ages program will be fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration is not required. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
