The Chagrin Falls High School Speech and Debate team has had a busy competition season so far. They traveled to Edison High School in Milan, Ohio the first weekend in November and earned fifth place in overall sweepstakes against 21 teams from Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo.
Congratulations to the following competitors for earning awards: Molly Burke – Dramatic Interpretation Champion; Liv Hauserman – 3rd Place for Dramatic Interpretation; Emily King and Victoria Haber – 6th Place for Public Forum Debate; Derrick Vehar – 5th Place for Original Oratory; Emily Muckle – 6th Place for Original Oratory; Karl Koenig and Rem Weber – 2nd Place for Duo Interpretation; Joey King and Ben Cervelloni – 4th Place for Duo Interpretation; and Laurel Jackson – 5th Place for United States Extemporaneous Speaking.
The team then traveled to Lincoln West High School in Cleveland on Nov. 7 and received fifth place overall with Liv Hauserman placing first and Laurel Jackson placing second.
Chagrin Falls High School hosted the elimination tournament at the school on Nov. 13 and 14. The district hosted 20 different schools from across Northeast Ohio, some as far as Wooster, Carrollton and Canfield.
“This was the first year we operated under the format of an elimination tournament and the first time in 15 years in the Cleveland district,” said Jeff Womack, Speech and Debate Head Coach. “These types of tournaments are revered across the state and has drawn positive attention to the surrounding states.” Our Chagrin Falls High School team placed fifth overall.
