Chagrin Falls Schools’ Educator Receives “Celebrating Teaching Distinguished Educator Award”

Every year, the “Celebrate Teaching Distinguished Educator Award” is given to a group of educators who have had an impact on students, colleagues, and community members. This year, Chagrin Falls Middle School teacher, Jessica Johnson, is a member of this honored group. Johnson is one of the 33 Distinguished Educators for the Class of 2017 in the State of Ohio. Only four educators are from Northeast Ohio. Johnson was recognized at the Educators Connect for Success Conference on June 8th at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

The award is presented by Battelle for Kids, a national non-profit organization that collaborates with school districts and communities to realize the power of 21st century learning for each student. In order to be considered for the Educator Award, recipients must have made a significant impact on the classroom and on the culture that results in student success.

Johnson is a seventh grade English Language Arts teacher. Her impact on learning stems from designing cohesive learning experiences and providing constant feedback by using data to identify student needs.

Chagrin Falls Middle School principal, Laila Discenza, said, “She provides high quality instruction within the class and targeted instruction based on particular skills during intervention time.

Johnson also works on student-led conferences and this past year led an interdisciplinary unit on dystopia and utopia by reaching out to community members and others involved in civic responsibility projects.

“Her work is tireless, her impact overwhelming, and her influence never erased. Jessica has an impact on the environment by always caring for the well-being of the child, inspiring others, and helping all kids learn while impacting colleagues by collaborating. It is a great testament to the work and vision of Chagrin Falls Schools,” said Discenza.

“This recognition is a reminder to all that teachers impact students in so many ways by helping them to grow academically, socially, and emotionally,” said Dr. Karen K. Garza, President and CEO of Battelle for Kids. “Congratulations to all the outstanding teachers in the 2017 Class of Distinguished Educators, and thank you for your work as a representative of the thousands of teachers across Ohio who give so selflessly of themselves to teach our children.”

We have created a diagram detailing the construction zones, parking, and pathways to enter the school and the Rec Center over the summer. Please help us follow these rules to keep everyone safe.”

The map for safety of visitors during summer construction can be found at Visitor Construction Safety Map.
