Paul Newman, Chardon attorney and Geauga County Public Library Board Member, is throwing the opening pitch Friday, July 26 at the 7:05 p.m. Cleveland Indians game at Progressive Field against the Texas Rangers. Mr. Newman, a GCPL Board Member since 1987, is a lifelong Indians fan. “Stepping onto the mound to toss the opening pitch is a great thrill and honor,” he says. “What a team! The Cleveland Indians are where I come from.”
Geauga County Public Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The countywide library was established in 1963 after Indians owner Larry Dolan, then a library board member, made the motion to combine all county libraries into one cohesive system. Both Mr. Dolan and Mr. Newman share a passion for fostering strong community libraries.
A strong community needs a strong library.
“A strong community needs a strong library,” Dolan says. “Both libraries and Little League Baseball are vital to building strong communities. Both empower kids to have dreams and learn. Both teach them how to develop skills and work together. I’m proud to have served on the Library Board.”As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Geauga County Public Library is offering $20 discount tickets (plus processing fee) this game. The evening includes the additional attractions of dollar dog night as well as post-game fireworks. Tickets may be purchased online only. The promotion code word is “library.” The group will be seated together in the mezzanine section. Anyone is invited to use the link to purchase tickets and celebrate with GCPL at the game.
Tickets are available while supplies last.
