Chardon Kiwanis Scarecrow Competition

CHARDON, OHIO, September 20, 2020 – While Fall Fest may be cancelled for this year because of COVID-19 that does not mean we cannot observe the Fall Season. This year the Chardon Kiwanis will be leading the celebration with a communitywide Scarecrow Competition.

On Saturday October 10, 2020, from 10 AM to 1 PM the Kiwanis will setup on the Square near the Heritage House to handout scarecrow making supplies excluding straw, to Chardon area children. This year’s scarecrows may be stuffed with your own straw, fall leaves, or any other filling that one finds available. Families are encouraged to stop by and pickup supplies to make their scarecrow at home as a family. The first one hundred families to pick up supplies will be given a $1 off a $10 or more pumpkin purchase from Ransom Sage Farms.

Once the scarecrow has all the finishing touches, they should be displayed outside in reverence to the Fall Season. For anyone interested in a friendly competition they may email a picture of their scarecrow to the Kiwanis at or alternatively drop it off at the customer services desk of our Chardon Heinen’s. The three best scarecrow pictures will receive a prize to be awarded before Halloween, which is being celebrated from 5 PM to 7 PM on October 31 in the City of Chardon.

“It is a wonderful feeling to know young families will be working together safely at home to create a unique scarecrow,’ said Jim Rayl, President of the Chardon Area Kiwanis. “I can’t wait to see the scarecrows popping up around town.
