CREW Welcomes Guest Speakers


Chardon High School’s CREW Manufacturing class, navigated by CREW faculty members Kim Butala and Tracey Britt, welcomed three guest speakers on Sept. 9 to deliver a wealth of information to students on apprenticeships/careers in the carpentry, millwrighting, floor laying and pile driving trades.
Dan Sustin, Ohio’s Director of Education in the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwright Joint Apprenticeship, introduced the class to details about the apprenticeship, while area business representatives Robert Hunter and Jason Powers were instrumental in delivering information from both the training side and the business side of what a career looks like for today’s carpenters, millwrights, floor layers and pile drivers. Hunter, a CHS alum ‘10, is a United States Air Force veteran and a carpentry instructor, while Powers is a millwright, welding and industrial maintenance instructor.Sustin has also invited CREW students and staff to attend the apprenticeship’s open house and apprentice contest on Oct. 20.

 


Treasury Earns Excellence Award


The District’s treasury department (l to r) assistant treasurer Jennifer Mismas, assistant to the treasurer Dianne Farizel, payroll/benefits specialist Crystal King-Morrison, accounts payable specialist Lauri Zampino and treasurer/CFO Deb Armbruster was recognized at the Sept. 19 regular board meeting for earning the GFOA (Governor Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award on Sept. 13 for fiscal year 2021.

Congratulations to the District treasurer’s department, which was awarded the GFOA (Governor Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award on Sept. 13 for fiscal year 2021.

District treasurer/CFO Deb Armbruster stated, “This honor is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The District financial statements have been in good standing for many years, but we were only able to obtain this award because we switched to GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) reporting, and filed an ACFR (annual financial comprehensive report) starting in fiscal year 2021.”

Mrs. Armbruster presented the certificates to each of her team members at the Sept. 19 regular board meeting: assistant treasurer Jennifer Mismas, assistant to the treasurer Dianne Farizel, payroll/benefits specialist Crystal King-Morrison, and accounts payable specialist Lauri Zampino.

Mrs. Armbruster stated, “Without the communication, collaboration, and attention to detail that this team exemplifies each and every day, this award would not be possible.”

 


PTO Provides Standing Desks

Chardon High School freshman Austin Clute assembling a standing desk on a the morning of Saturday Sept. 23, part of a volunteer effort to ready over 60 standing desks purchased by the Chardon Middle School PTO for middle school classrooms.

The Chardon Middle School PTO generously purchased over 60 brand new standing desks this month using monies generated from their fundraising activities.
Parent and student volunteers donated their time on a Saturday morning and weekday evenings to help assemble the desks. This volunteer work greatly assisted the school’s custodial team as each desk requires approximately an hour to construct.Volunteers arrived with Phillips head screwdrivers and a willingness to help and were rewarded for their time and effort with pizza and snacks provided by the PTO.


CHS Auburn Culinary Student Learning Knife Skills

Harmony Nemetz, a Chardon High School junior and Auburn Career Center first-year culinary student, in the ACC culinary lab on Sept. 15 learning knife skills through chopping vegetables to make salsa.

Chardon Early Learning Center pre-Kindergarten student Ethan Nelson is all smiles on Sept. 23, learning about leaves and changing fall weather in Miss Camille’s class.
