Chardon Rises Up

Hot Air Balloon to Lift Off from Chardon High Football Field

balloon-featured-imageFive months almost to the day that shook Chardon – this Saturday, July 28 – the community’s school levy committee will send two of its own high into Geauga’s scenic skies perched in the basket of a hot air balloon.

It will be another symbol of unity, strength, and rising to the challenge, and organizers hope it will raise awareness that community members’ “yes” votes on August 7 are critically important to the education of the students affected by February 27.

The issue, a 5.95-mill operating levy, would reinstate valuable programs cut since the district has received no money since 2006.

It’s time to get above this,” Superintendent Joe Bergant said, “to approve this levy so we can move forward for our students.”

Saturday’s giant hot air balloon will launch at 7 p.m. sharp from Chardon Memorial Field, where the football team will begin practicing only two days later. However, community members have been called to rally on site as early as they would like, enjoying picnics or playing catch as the balloon is set up and readied for take-off.

When notified of his win Sunday, balloon ride raffle winner Larry Fulton said his daughter, Chardon alumna Heather, filled out his lucky raffle ticket.

Please join Bergant and a community of other school supporters no later than 7 p.m.for a great photo and video opportunity and a chance to tell this great story.
