Chardon’s Science Olympiad Teams Headed to State
Chardon’s middle and high school Science Olympiad teams have both qualified for the State Finals to be held at The Ohio State University in late April, 2018. The teams qualified by performing well at the rigorous Northeastern Ohio Regional Tournament, held at Mentor High School February 24th. Chardon Middle School took second place in their division and Chardon High School took fourth place in theirs.
The top four teams move on to the State competition. Comprised of students in grades 7-12, the teams compete in various science events ranging from to lab work, to constructing and testing towers, airplanes and wheeled vehicles, incorporating all aspects of STEM in the preparation and execution of their tasks. Beyond the wide-ranging academic topics that the students are exposed to lies the true nature of what they learn from their experiences in the Science Olympiad: the spirit of innovation, teamwork and cooperation.
