Chief Oliver, Author of No Mopes Allowed, Comes to Burton

If you are already a fan of the Brimfield Police Department’s Facebook page, then the following should be familiar to you. If you are not, then you will probably want to become one!

“We recognize that our goal is to help people and provide assistance at every opportunity.

We will fight crime by preventing it, and also by aggressively pursuing and apprehending violators of the law.

We will maintain a higher standard of integrity, because we are held to higher standards.

We will honor and abide by all Federal, State and Local laws, and be diligent in enforcing the laws in a consistent, fair and swift manner.

We will provide effective police services to all of the residents of Brimfield Township. We understand doing this will help prevent crimes, protect life and property, and safeguard the Constitutional Rights guaranteed to all citizens.”

Chief David Oliver is a much loved and admired leader in the Brimfield community (and all over the world, in fact)! Not only does he adhere to what he says in the above statement, he communicates it daily through his wit-and-wisdom writing style on the department’s page. His daily rants and reports are balanced between sharing the accomplishments of his officers in carrying out their mission to fight and prevent crime with the joy of serving the residents and rewarding good behavior – all written in his distinct and often humorous manner.

No Mopes AllowedSo unique is his style, that he was approached by Gray and Company Publishers in 2013 about authoring a book containing his greatest hits from his posts over the last two years when he began his Facebook writing. No Mopes Allowed was released in September of that year and has been gaining popularity ever since.

His book will expose you to quite a variety of topics: the devastating affects of the heroin epidemic and drunk driving; the fantastic “Shop-With-A-Cop” holiday program; the chief’s deep love and respect for our veterans; the daily police action reports including the exploits of their very own “Meth Whisperer,” Did-I-Really-Just-Hear-That? conversations with dumb criminals, and the occasional weasel attack; the funny letters from local school kids and not-so-nice letters from the chief himself to the criminal types who occasionally pass through Brimfield on their way a complimentary stay at the county “bed-and-breakfast.”

Way too much to cover here!

All of the earnings from the book are donated to the CHIEF OLIVER FOUNDATION, a not-for-profit organization that distributes funds to Brimfield Police Department charitable programs and assists juvenile survivors of sexual assault.

Burton Public Library has invited Chief Oliver to come on Monday, June 16 at 6 pm. You can meet him and purchase a copy of his book for $12. This event will be held in the outdoor Reading Garden, weather permitting.

Be sure to follow the Chief on the Brimfield Police’s Facebook page!
