The Sweet Beginnings
Sixteen years ago, Dennis Hart began a maple syrup business known as North Coast Sugarbush and offered maple products to the public through various trade shows in the area. After adding cinnamon roasted nuts to his menu, which turned into a favorite, he eventually closed the maple product company and opened European Gourmet Almonds in which he included his children Brian, Craig, and Eric.

Then more years on the road, traveling to expos and shows, ultimately brought the family to the decision to develop their own chocolates in a local facility where customers could visit them. In 2004, the Buckeye Chocolate Company was established in Newbury and they have since been developing a quality product along with a strong presence in the chocolate confectionary industry. And one day, the third generation of the Hart family will take over.
A Cafe Is Born
For now, perhaps due to all the chocolate that must be flowing in their veins, these energetic Hart boys have set out to add yet another chapter to their success story with the Buckeye Chocolate Cafe. You’ll find all their exquisite confections including dark, white, milk chocolates and truffles; brittles; fudge; gift baskets; roasted nuts; dark chocolate nuts and clusters; caramels and coconut haystacks; and of course their top seller specialty item and namesake – the famous Dark Chocolate Buckeyes!
