In this class, we will first meet to discuss techniques for increasing the impact of your performance, looking at examples from poets and other readers and performers. A week later, participants will prepare and deliver a poem or story of their own using those techniques, and receive feedback in a supportive setting.

No one cares about stories more than young readers do. This workshop focuses on writing the kinds of stories they deserve. We’ll consider character, narrative arc, voice, humor, and writing strong themes. Participants should bring work in progress for gentle and productive group critique. Writers of YA and non-fiction are welcome.

This memoir workshop will provide a window into important times in your life: how it was for you to grow up in your home, to survive adolescence, what made you who you are. Simple exercises and prompts will result in your writing short vignettes. We will write in class, have homework assignments, and will work with approaches to revision. Participants will share writing and make suggestions for one another in a supportive environment.

Your family is rich in story, and you may have a few heirlooms, a mind full of memorable tales, or many boxes of keepsake letters, journals and clippings. Learn techniques for writing your family history with the goal of publishing it or preserving it for friends or for generations to come. Participants will use writing examples, prompts and research as a starting point for exploring family history.
