College-planning process stays on track with virtual presentations, admissions rep visits

Students and school counselor Mrs. Koli Storer participate in a virtual college rep visit with Mr. Gabriel Brown of the University of Notre Dame this week. Joining Mr. Brown in the conversation are Hailey Oppenlander ’18 and Nora Nelson ’18, who are juniors under Notre Dame’s Golden Dome.

The COVID-19 pandemic has proven to be no match for NDCL’s Counseling Department, which has nimbly shifted gears to keep the college-planning process on track with effective virtual strategies to serve our students and their parents.

On September 10, the department hosted its Annual College Kick-off presentation via Zoom. Mrs. Jenn Toomey, Assistant Director of Undergraduate and Graduate Assistance at Case Western Reserve

University, joined our counselors to share important information on the Common Application, essays, test scores, recommendation letters, and other relevant topics.

Throughout the fall, the Counseling Department will facilitate virtual visits of representatives from dozens of colleges and universities throughout the country. These Zoom meetings help students learn about majors, campus life, scholarships, and other opportunities.

“These admission reps are the professionals who read our students’ applications to their universities, so these are valuable connections to make,” explained Director of Counseling Mrs. Katie Koci.
