Who’s craving fresh air? Bring a date or the family, a lawn chair or blanket, and spend the night outdoors enjoying movies and live music in Geauga Park District!
Nights Out in the Parks returns on special Saturdays in June, July and August – three outdoor movie nights and four scenic amphitheater shows, all completely free for all!
Observatory Park hosts all three movies, shown on a giant inflatable screen under internationally recognized dark skies. Bring blankets and lawn chairs and plot out your place on the grass. Themed activities and free popcorn and lemonade begin at 8:00 p.m., and each film starts at dark. Geauga County Public Library’s Fun Bus is also on hand; browse its stash of books and check out materials you’d like to take home right from the bus!
This season’s first two movies will be Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Saturday, June 23rd, and Peter Rabbit on Saturday, July 14th. Then will the third movie on Saturday, August 11th, be Casablanca, Grease, Back to the Future or Apollo 13? We want YOU to help us decide! Voting between these four options will be held June 1st to July 14th online and during the first two movie nights. Get a link for online voting starting June 1st at the new Geauga Park District under News & Updates.
As for live music, Big Creek Park’s Frances S. Hall Amphitheater is the place to be, hosting all four amphitheater shows, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Erie Heights Brass Ensemble (“torch songs”) on June 9th, Northern Comfort Band (traditional country music from the 1950s through 1980s) on July 7th, Long Time Gone (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tribute) on July 28th, and Upriver (folk, Celtic and Appalachian music) on August 25th. Shows will include refreshments and be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.
Observatory Park is located at 10610 Clay Street, Montville Township; Big Creek Park is located at 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township. Learn more about both parks at the new Geauga Park District.
