Congratulation to Chardon High School senior Isabelle Lemaster who was named a National Merit Finalist in the 2018 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Each year, about 1.6 million students take the PSAT. Of the juniors who take the exam, about 16,000 earn scores that qualify them as Semifinalists (that’s around 1%). This group is narrowed down to 15,000, who become Finalists. Of this group, about 7,500 are awarded scholarships of $2,500 a year (that can be renewed each year you’re in college). Best of Luck Isabelle!

Chardon Science Olympians Headed to State

Chardon’s middle and high school Science Olympiad teams finished up a grueling competition season by competing in the rigorous Regional Finals at Mentor High on Saturday, February 23rd. Both the B Division (Grades 6-9) and the C Division (Grades 9-12) qualified for the annual State competition. The B team took 2nd place and the C team took 5th. The top six teams in each division qualified for State which will be held in April at The Ohio State University. Way to go Toppers!

Chardon’s Science Olympiad is a program of extra-curricular study designed to challenge and enrich our most scientifically motivated students. Although Science Olympiad is competitive, most events require teamwork, group planning and cooperation. The emphasis is on learning, participation, having fun and developing team spirit.

CHS Heart-2 Heart Dance

On Thursday February 21st, Rob Mizen’s AC4P Leadership class from Chardon High School hosted its annual Heart-2-Heart Dance at Park Auditorium. The party was a late Valentine celebration for area senior citizens, and a great way of connecting generations through dance. The DJ’s spinning 60’s-80’s oldies tunes was perfect for breaking the ice between the students and seniors, and the dancing was non-stop, a true sign of a successful event. Park 2nd graders were also on hand to share poems and serenade the seniors. A complimentary lunch was also served, courtesy of University Hospitals food service provider, Sodexo, Inc. Thanks to all who helped make the day such a success, including the Geauga County Department on Aging and UHHS Geauga Medical Center.
