Delivering Healthy Meals Rewards Both Giver and Receiver

The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals program provides Geauga homebound seniors a nutritious lunch as well as a friendly face five days a week. If you are a Geauga resident, sixty years of age or older, homebound, and not able to cook for yourself, contact the Department on Aging. There are no income qualifications. Meals can be provided to couples as a respite for the primary spouse, a single senior, or to those seniors who live with their family but are alone during the day and are unable to cook.

Funding for the program is provided by the Geauga Senior Services Levy and donations. Clients may make a donation to the program, but are not required to pay for the meals.

The program relies on volunteers to make the deliveries.

Become a Volunteer Driver!

meal-deliveryDo you have a couple of hours you can spare just once a month? It’s only takes a very little amount of time each month to make a big difference in the lives of 10-15 senior citizens. Meal drivers, once trained, can choose how often they would like to help. Be a substitute driver (if you are available), be a regular monthly driver, or drive more often if you like!

Many companies or civic groups send different individuals from their organization on the same day once a week or once month. For instance, those groups who drive once a week can have one employee drive for the organization this Tuesday, a different co-worker drive the next Tuesday and so forth until every volunteer driver has had a turn to drive. However, you determine your driving schedule.

Meals are delivered Monday through Friday and usually take between 1 to 1 1/2 hours from start to finish. Can you find the time to drive a nutritious lunch to 10 or 15 homebound seniors? Their gratitude will be well worth your effort.

If you are 18 years of age or older, have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance, the Department on Aging needs your help. Please consider donating a little time – the rewards will be big for both you and those whom you serve.
