Time is running out to submit your nomination for Geauga County’s Biggest American Sycamore!  The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is currently seeking nominations for this year’s BIG TREE Contest.

The 2019 featured tree species is the American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), honoring its significance and contributions to Ohio’s streams and rivers.  Known as “guardians of the stream,” Sycamore trees buffer river banks, reduce runoff, stabilize stream channels, and provide aquatic and terrestrial wildlife habitat.

This voluntary contest promotes the beauty and benefits provided by our county’s biggest and oldest trees, along with their contributions to clean water and healthy soil.  Participants must submit a nomination form to Geauga SWCD no later than Thursday, August 1st at 3:30 p.m.

Please email your nomination to gprunty@geaugaswcd.com or submit in person or through the mail to the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District, PO Box 410, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton, OH 44021.

For guidelines, a nomination form, and more information, visit geaugaswcd.com or contact Gail Prunty at 440.834.1122 or gprunty@geaugaswcd.com.
