  • Elderberries: A Sweet Treat from the Trees – Thursday, March 15th, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Swine Creek Reservation, Lodge – Our Senior Days have been re-branded as “Elderberries: Seniors Ripe for Adventure!” In this installment: discover the secrets of pure Geauga Gold…maple syrup! Join the Geauga County Department on Aging and University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center for lunch in the lodge at 11:30 a.m., then enjoy a hands-on program in the sugarbush and sugar house learning about the maple sugaring process. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

  • Backcountry Heron Hike – Saturday, March 17th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve – Venture off trail to the site of a heron nesting colony with possible views of returning Great Blue Herons! Prepare for an approximately two-mile round-trip hike to and from the nesting site, as well as wet, muddy conditions with uneven terrain. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.

  • Sap’s-a-Risin’! – Sunday, March 18th, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Swine Creek Reservation – See description for March 4th. Performances by the Real Deal String Band featured in the lodge. Also March 4th and 11th. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • Maple Town Tune Traders – Thursday, March 22nd, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

The West Woods, Nature Center – Singers and musicians, sign up for a short performance spot followed by a jam session. All musical genres, instruments and musicianship levels welcome. Come to play, sing or simply enjoy as audience. Snacks to share welcome. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • Weather Satellites & How To Use Them – Friday, March 23rd, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

  • March of the Salamanders – Saturday, March 24, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Big Creek Park, Aspen Grove Shelter – Accompany Field Naturalist Tami Gingrich as she visits several vernal pools to check preset traps in search of giant mole salamanders and other aquatic critters. Learn about the amazing amphibian migration into these important woodland “puddles.” Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

  • Egg Hunt: Nature Style – Saturday, March 24th, 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The West Woods, Nature Center – Celebrate spring by following clues in and outdoors to hidden eggs and fun facts. Find all the eggs on the hunt and be rewarded with a fun prize! Two levels of scavenger hunt cards will be available anytime during program hours: kids 5 and under, kids 6 and up. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • Nassau Night Sky Viewing – Saturday, March 24th, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Observatory Park, Nassau Astronomical Station – See description for March 10th. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • Spring Wings Waterfowl Watch – Sunday, March 25th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

LaDue Reservoir, Boat House Parking Area – Take a birding outing along LaDue Reservoir, pausing to get out of vehicles to view loons, grebes, various ducks and other migrants as well as resident Bald Eagles. First come, first served for a seat in the park van; others may caravan behind. Meet at the LaDue boat parking area at Valley and Washington streets, east of Route 44. Bring binoculars. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible. Nature’s Not to Be Missed.

  • The Sky Tonight Planetarium Show – Sunday, March 25th, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Grandparents in the Park: Spring Break – Wednesday, March 28th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Big Creek Park, Cherry Room – Grandparents and their grandchildren are invited out for a day of fun indoor and outdoor Nature activities for all ages. Please bring a snack to share. Partially outdoors, weather dependent, so please dress for the weather. Registration is required. Wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • Geauga Walkers – Tuesday, March 27th, 1:00 p.m – 2:30 p.m.

Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve, Sunset Shelter – See description for March 13th. Not wheelchair/stroller accessible.

  • “Full Moon Rising” Glass Painting Workshop – Friday, March 30th, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Observatory Park, Robert McCullough Science Center – Fee: $30 – Join Jeannie Carder Shimek from Artifacts Gift Studio to paint a rising moon motif on a set of two drink glasses, which may also be utilized as candle holders. Refreshments will be served. Fee: $30 includes all materials and refreshments, including non-alcoholic beverages. Participants may also bring their beverage of choice. Ages 15+. Wheelchair/stroller accessible. Registration required.
