Geauga County Public Library is pleased to announce Edward J. Worso will be Geauga County Public Library’s Director effective Sept. 23. Mr. Worso brings substantial library experience to GCPL, most recently having served as the Director at Henderson Memorial Public Library in Jefferson, Ohio, since October 2011 where he oversaw a $250,000 building renovation and increased circulation by 32 percent between 2012 and 2014.
Prior to his tenure at Henderson, Mr. Worso was the Circulation Manager at Willowick Public Library and a Circulation Supervisor at The Ohio State University Moritz Law Library. He spent 15 years of his early career at The Columbus Metropolitan Library in Ohio. He is a Ohio Library Council certified librarian, earned his master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State University and his bachelor of arts in comparative studies from Ohio State University, graduating cum laude.
Current GCPL Board President Raymond Rundelli finds Mr. Worso’s passion for libraries and his record of public library service and leadership inspiring. “The entire Library Board was impressed by Ed’s infectious enthusiasm, his strong commitment to the mission of public libraries, and his innovative approaches to strengthening and furthering the vital role that public libraries play in a free society,” he states. “We are confident that Ed is the right person to lead our already great library system to new heights of success and public service.”
Mr. Worso will spend one week overlapping duties with current GCPL Director Deborah F. O’Connor while he visits county officials and community agencies. He has served on the United Way board of trustees, Head Start Policy Council, Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce board, Leadership Ashtabula, Ohio Library Council and other organizations.
“It’s a great honor to be chosen to lead such an extraordinary library system as Geauga County’s and humbling to follow the outstanding career of outgoing Director Deborah O’Connor,” Mr. Worso says. “I look forward to meeting and serving the folks of Geauga County, working alongside the exceptional staff, and getting to know this community that has so vigorously supported its public libraries.”
