Fairmount Santrol Donates Trees to Orchard Hills Park

Fairmount Team Planting

On April 29, approximately 15 Fairmount Santrol employees and 4 park staff members planted 2,500 native trees at Orchard Hills Park in Chesterland Township. Fairmount Santrol of Chardon purchased and donated these trees to Geauga Park District. Employees volunteered an estimated 80+ hours completing this project.

Quest for Eco-Efficiency Team Leader, Josh Holbrook, was the contact person within the company organizing the project. The tree donation contributed to reforestation efforts at Orchard Hills Park.

The approximate cost of the donated trees was $1,225 and the trees were planted in a 16 acre area comprised of old golf course fairways along the west side of the park. The species planted were:

  • River Birch
  • Butternut
  • Shagbark Hickory
  • Black Walnut
  • Black Locust
  • Black Oak
  • American Sycamore
  • Pin Oak

The trees will help stabilize soil and return the old golf course fairways into a more beneficial habitat for wildlife. There are many headwater streams throughout the property and as these trees mature over the years, they will beneficially contribute to improving the water quality of the Chagrin River.

Here are a few photos from the day!
