Bring your own horse for these naturalist-led experiences
Equestrians make use of Geauga Park District on their own every day of the week.
Guided experiences are less common. But two leisurely, naturalist-led rides have been scheduled for Headwaters Park this October, and registration is now open online or 440-286-9516 to attend.
On Saturday, October 19, join the Horseback Moonlight Ride to experience the sights and sounds of autumn by the light of the full Hunter Moon. This four-mile ride on the Buckeye and Maple Bridle Trails provides the possibility of twilight-active wildlife. Anticipate hills, gravel, and bridge and stream crossings.
Then, on Sunday, October 20, join the Horse Ride Around the Reservoir to enjoy fall colors and migratory birds while traversing forest and field. This eight- to nine-mile ride will reach both sides of the East Branch Reservoir.
Both rides start from the Crystal Lake Picnic Area on Route 608. Don’t forget a shovel to clean up after your horse in the parking lot. Helmets are encouraged and registration is limited, so sign up today!
Geauga Park District is online, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
