Family BioBlitz: Critter-Catching Fun

Each year, volunteer scientists from across Northeast Ohio gather on a Geauga Park District property to tally all the species of animals that call the park home. We call this a BioBlitz.

Now you, too, can participate in a big critter-catching adventure, seeking the amphibians, reptiles, fish, birds, mammals and many kinds of insects that inhabit the ponds, stream, forest and meadow of The West Woods.

The Family BioBlitz will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at The West Woods’ Deer Run Shelter, 9465 Kinsman Road (Rt. 87), Russell Twp.

Naturalists will provide nets, binoculars and more to make the experience all the more enriching for your family. All you will need to bring is proper outdoor attire (long pants, shoes & socks; shorts and sandals discouraged) and your senses of curiosity and adventure!

Registration is not required to attend this free program, for those school age and up. Only the pond portion will be wheelchair/stroller accessible. Please call 440-279-0883 with questions.
