On Tuesday evening, June 21st, the Geauga Arts Network Group (GANG) welcomes knitweaver, Joanne Ettore, who will be sharing and demonstrating her unique craft from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heinen’s Cafe, 402 Center Street in Chardon, Ohio. This educational program is free and open to the general public; no reservations are necessary.
Ettore operates the Praxis Fiber Workshop in the Waterloo District of Cleveland, and has been developing her craft for 24 years. Knitweaving is the art of using smaller scale looms to knit a variety of works, from tapestries and wearable accessories to handloomed mandala.
She explains, “Fiber is a connection for many different media. The act of making with strings in three dimensions, our creativity is fed in a way that’s good for the planet…One can make meaningful fiber artworks using almost anything – from the finest embroidery floss, to wire or ribbon, or even heavy unspun roving yarn.”
There are only two companies manufacturing the intricate, small-scale looms that Ettore uses for her work, and she will be bringing her own knitweaving machine to demonstrate her techniques, while answering audience questions. For more information on Ettore and her artwork, visit www.BalancingPointStudio.com.
The Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information, contact Joanne Durante, 440-729-6481 or visit us on Facebook.
