NDES fifth grade students learn to understand math by exploring problem solving methods instead of just finding the “right” answer.
Students are given math problems and puzzles to explore and the solutions and strategies are recorded in their math journals. Teachers facilitate as students work in small groups to share how they found solutions to math problems.
