What is an American Steel Building?
Made with 12 or 14-gauge galvanized steel sheets and tubing, American Steel Buildings protect your valuables against the weather. In Northeast Ohio, the 12-gauge materials are recommended due to our heavy snow loads. And a 26-gauge option is available through special order for those wanting even greater protection.
Installed with mobile home anchors, these structures withstand winds up to 90 miles per hour, guaranteed. In fact, a 20-year warranty accompanies your purchase when Scheid’s installs the building. This guarantees the structure against rust-through on the framing with normal use and care.
However, you need to keep in mind that only the 12-gauge materials are guaranteed for 20 years in this snowy part of the country. The 14-gauge, unfortunately, only carries a one year warranty. We just get too much snow.
What Options are Available?
American Steel Buildings come in a variety of sizes and heights, different roof shapes and base shapes. Add-on options give you even more choices making them ideal for both residential and commercial purposes.

The standard building features 12-foot legs. For those truck drivers by trade, a 14-foot height is available. To give you a size reference, a double wide option measures 24-feet by 41-feet with 9-foot sides. Even triplewides are available.
Door sizes vary from single entry to garage style. A 10-foot by 10-foot garage door is even available to allow access for larger equipment. Plus, a building may include more than one door or door style. The roof can be A-framed or arched.
Furthermore, buildings can include an enclosed area or be more open with no door. Partially enclosed structures with open bottoms are also a possibility. Steel buildings also come in unusual shapes such as hexagons.
American Steel Buildings work to hold tools, tractors and other gardening equipment. They guard cars, SUVs, semi-trucks and more against damage. They protect campers, RVs and boats. They house horses and other animals or store feed supplies.

Can They be Customized?

The foundation of the building is also your choice. American Steel Buildings install easily on gravel or concrete slabs. The surface simply needs to be level. Plus adding a coat of paint (not necessary) customizes the building’s appearance for the color-conscious.
Structurally, one building can be split in half and added to the sides of another structure. This design proves great creating horse stalls in a barn. Or, a lean-to added to the side of any building gives you added storage or a protected work-space.
Finally, insulation kits are available for DIYers. The ability to heat these spaces offers a greater range of use to homeowners. Horses and other animals stay warmer in harsh winter temperatures. Cold-sensitive materials are protected. And, you stay warm if the building is used as a work-space in cooler months.
