Lowe’s Greenhouses, Florist and Gift Shop will kick off the autumn season with a Fall Fest celebration on Saturday and Sunday, September 8th and 9th. Fall Fest features family friendly activities during the weekend and special sales throughout the store.
A Monarch Butterfly Tag and Release Event takes place on September 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. For $12, attendees receive a tagged monarch butterfly for release and documentation to follow its migratory path to Mexico. Also included in the ticket price is a self-guided, educational tour through pollinator plants that attract butterflies.
Local butterfly expert, Annette Slane, also known as the Monarch Momma, will be on hand from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to share her knowledge about monarchs. Children’s face painting and a butterfly treat round out the afternoon fun. Event tickets may be purchased in advance at Lowe’s Greenhouse or at the door.
On September 9th, Uncle David’s Traveling Farm, with a variety of farm animals, will be on site from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Children’s face painting will also be available. The event is free.
A free corn roast with fresh, local corn will take place on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Corn will also be available for purchase.

She has been a preschool teacher for 21 years, and shares her love of butterflies with her students. For the last ten years, she has been collecting, raising, and tagging monarchs and has shared her milkweed seeds, monarch eggs and caterpillars with hundreds of local kids and their parents, so that they could experience the joy in watching the transformation as the caterpillars grow and transform into a butterfly.
