GCPL to Close Newbury Station on June 30

At the June 23 rd regular meeting of the Geauga County Public Library Board of Trustees, the difficult decision was made to cease library services to the public at the Newbury Station effective June 30, 2020.

“The future of the buildings at the Newbury campus, including the building housing the Newbury Station since 2016, remains too uncertain in light of the merger of the Newbury Schools with the West Geauga Local Schools,” says GCPL Director Ed Worso. “We have been proactive for quite some time in an effort to remain in the current space, but unfortunately too much remains unknown about the future of the location. The West Geauga School Board does not intend to use the Newbury buildings and Newbury Township has yet to make a decision on what to do with the buildings.”

GCPL remains hopeful the Newbury community will come up with a plan for the former school buildings that includes an opportunity to resume operation of a Newbury Station. “We most certainly want to be a part of that conversation, whenever it might take place. We have had a presence in Newbury since 1993 and it remains our desire to have a presence there to serve the Newbury community as directly as possible,” Worso continues.

The other GCPL Branches remain open to all Geauga County residents. The Newbury staff and the Administrative team will be reaching out to current Newbury patrons to discuss alternatives and address questions and concerns.
