The Geauga Family YMCA is excited to announce that the Otter Swim School is coming to the aquatics center for Fall 2016.
This new and improved swim lesson program hits on many of the suggestions that our members have offered.
You’ll see some obvious changes immediately- especially in class size, the way classes are taught and how the entire pool will be utilized.
- Smaller student to teacher ratio—check!
- Longer classes for the higher levels—done!
- Less confusing names for classes—Yep! Pikes and Guppies are a thing of the past.
- More lessons in a session—did it! Lessons that meet twice a week—did that too!
- Eliminate the distractions in the pool area—It’ll be a big change, but we will be closing the pool during our afternoon, evening and weekend swim lessons so the only people in the water will be students and instructors. This includes the play pool too, as we recognize that we are not using the pool to its full potential and you’ll now see classes taking advantage of this space.
This video, produced by YMCA of the USA show little nuggets about the new swim lesson program upgrade and how learning to swim is learning a life skill. I’d encourage you to watch it (and maybe grab a tissue first!).
Upcoming Swim Lesson Sessions:
Fall 1: September 6 – October 23 (7 weeks—1 day/week)
Fall A: September 6 – September 29 (4 weeks—2 days/week)
“We believe the new Otter Swim School will be very popular, says Jodi Clute, Aquatics Director. Please remember to register early to ensure a spot in the class of your choice. Before registering, be sure to check your family’s calendar, as we are not able to do make up classes or offer refunds for missed classes, unless it is for a documented medical reason. As always, you can register online, over the phone (440-285-7543), in person at the front desk or (if you have a credit card on file here at the Y) simply email me back with your class choice and I’ll take it from there!”
While we are rolling out our new Otter swim school- I welcome your suggestions and comments.
