The Geauga Lyric Theater Guild (GLTG), located in Chardon Square, has announced the youth workshops for this summer. There will be opportunities to explore the arts from ages four to seventeen. The GLTG combines youth and educational theater to teach students confidence, team-building, character, voice, and artistic concepts within the framework of performing a production. Oh, and fun!
The youngest actors will gain confidence as they participate in the junior workshops designed to introduce ages four to seven to performance. ‘Tall Tale Fun’ and ‘There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly’ will provide an entertaining performance for friends and family at the conclusion of each workshop. Lee Ann Tamburrino and Debbie Keppler will instruct our rising stars!
The elementary drama,‘Beauty and the Beast’, will provide ages seven to twelve with the opportunity to go beyond the basics. Art projects, games, and stage time will fill the mornings with fun and learning. Angela Miloro-Hansen has many years of experience in educating youth in her very popular workshops and will continue with the story of a girl who lives with a frightening beast in order to save her father. ‘Dragon Tale’ will be presented as the afternoon elementary musical. Taught by a talented instructor, Debbie Keppler, this workshop will be sure to instill a love for the performing arts as the children stage a comedic musical. An evil dragon has terrorized the kingdom and the King must search for a brave knight to defeat the creature and win the hand of the princess.
This year, the GLTG introduces a new “tweens only” offering. Sarah Wyatt will teach the workshop for ages ten to fourteen. Sarah has been in many performances at the GLTG and is a welcome addition to the GLTG staff. ‘Tom Sawyer’ will be presented at the conclusion of this workshop and promises to snare audiences with this classic tale of a well-meaning but mischievous lad who bounds from one event to the next avoiding calamity. Becky Thatcher, Aunt Polly, and Injun Joe are a few of the characters who will make the magic of Mark Twain come to life on stage.
Audiences are always amazed by the talent of the teens involved at the GLTG. They are challenged by long-time instructor Patty Osredkar and her talented staff to present a “main-stage” quality performance. Dedicated time in learning voice, blocking, and characterization contribute to the wonderful performance. Additional theatrical elements will be explored, such as lighting, make-up, costuming, and set design. This year, we are excited to present ‘Shrek the Musical’. The fairy tale turned upside down will help students not only explore their musical talents but also will allow them to test their comedic potential. Shrek, an unlikely hero, and his loyal misfits set out to rescue the beautiful, although slightly temperamental, princess. Whether new to the stage or an “old” pro, students will grow in learning.
