At its regular meeting Tuesday, Geauga Park District’s Board of Park Commissioners appointed John Oros, a 21-year full time employee of the Park District, as its new executive director.
Oros started his career in the parks in 1991 as a seasonal employee and climbed the ranks as maintenance technician, land steward, natural resource manager, director of Operations and Natural Resource Management, director of Operations and, since the end of 2013, interim director.
A 1986 graduate of James A. Garfield High School in Garrettsville, Oros attended Maplewood Joint Vocational School in Ravenna for its natural resource management program.
From 1986 to 1990, he served in the United States Air Force as a security specialist with training in law enforcement.
“I am especially grateful to all the park staff who have worked so hard for excellence in the past year; I really couldn’t have done it without them,” Oros said. “Today I look forward to a continuation of working alongside a great team of people and accomplishing great things for our future.”
Oros lives with his wife, April, and their two adopted sons, Sam and Jesse, both 9, in Middlefield Township, where they attend Horizons Christian Assembly. His free time is often spent in Nature: camping, gardening and hunting.
“My overall goal is to give the people of this county the opportunity to enjoy Nature at its best through the use of our parks,” he said. “Geauga parks are top-notch already, and I will continue to expand on that legacy.”
