Geauga Park District Board of Park Commissioners Makes Finance Staff Change

Today we, the Board of Park Commissioners, took action to terminate our relationship with finance manager, treasurer and fiscal officer Mike Frederick.

We realize the accountability to the Geauga County taxpayers that came with the transition to fiscal independence in June. We also understand that we need the best person to hold the position of fiscal officer for Geauga Park District – someone who will work collaboratively with our entire team, particularly our management team, executive director and Board of Park Commissioners.

The task of retaining a strong fiscal officer is entrusted to our organization, and we do not take this responsibility lightly. Geauga Park District is committed to accurate, accountable and responsible fiscal management, as well as a positive and productive working environment for staff and administration. To this end, the Board of Park Commissioners also made the decision today to hire accounting firm Marcum LLP, which is respected for its work throughout Northeast Ohio. Marcum LLP will work side by side with current Park District fiscal staff to ensure accurate fiscal and financial management, and will assist us as we work to hire a new fiscal officer for the betterment of our organization.

We believe the changes made today are in the best interest of the Geauga County taxpayers, who have been so supportive of their parks, and we now move forward to pursue and solidify the kind of skillful fiscal management that Geauga County deserves.
