With their retreat to Canada thousands of years ago, glaciers left their mark on the landscape. No, we’re not talking Jurassic World, but prehistoric re-landscaping done by ice and meltwater.
Join Geauga Park District for an eye-opening presentation on how glaciers redid things, leaving long, low ridges of rock and sediments; curious knolls, lakes and wetlands; valleys filled with sand and gravel; and a mantle of deposits that became our local soils.
Ice Age Leftovers on the Landscape will be presented on Saturday, June 27 from 1 to 2 p.m. at West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87), Russell Twp.
In addition to the glacial origins of these landforms, Naturalist Dan Best will also relate the role glaciers played in the development of Geauga County’s land use history, including agriculture, industry, tourism, wildlife diversity and water resources.
Registration is not required for this wheelchair/stroller accessible presentation. However, registration is required (and extremely limited) for an afternoon road trip, until 5 p.m., to view some of our local glacial features.
